The Aftermath

These are just a few of the pictures of the horrible damage done to Newfoundland by Hurricane Igor. Although St John's and the metro area will soon be back to normal communities such as Trouty (shown in the pictures below) may never recover. At least five major bridges plus portions of the road into Trouty are gone...and power cannot be restored until the power company can get men and equipment into the area. This will take weeks if nor months and winter is just around the corner.

Word from Trouty is that the community is pulling together to survive. The only business in Trouty other than a small 'Bed and Breakfast' place is a bakery. The bakery opened its doors and told the people to just come and get it. Others are sharing their food and water supplies.

My angel's father smokes...rolls his own much as my Dad did in the old days. He has run out of tobacco but neighbors have shared with him even though it means that they might run out themselves before supplies can get to them.

Although many there have generators for emergencies, gasoline is in short supply and there is no way of getting much in until the roads are repaired. One of the pictures below shows a fuel tank floating...one individual in Trouty has some heavy equipment and apparently had plans to buy fuel in bulk...

The Federal and Provincial governments are making a lot of noise about fixing roads and bridges and some progress has been made. But as I write this the military has not been called up to fly in supplies by helicopter...a local talk show asked the question of the day..."Should the military be called in?" Hmmmmm...yeah I reckon so.

I have always believed that there is a 'silver lining in every cloud'...but it is hard to see it in this cloud. Maybe it is just that communities hit hard (such as Trouty) come together as a community to help each other through the crises. I don't know...but humans have been fighting nature for survival for a million years or more and we are still here. The creator is kinda weird, huh? The only basic defense mechanism she gave us humans...or at least some of us...is the ability to think. Then she made a earth a violent place to reside making damn sure we had to use that sole defense mechanism.

Life is good in spite of stormy weather. Love will conquer all...not only the love between a man and a woman but the love of humanity itself. Yes, we fret and worry about our friends and family...my angel is in tears a lot right now because of being isolated from her family and unable to help. But they know she loves them and will do all she can. And she kissed me this morning and told me she loved me and she knows my world revolves around her.

The jumpstart was hot and strong and got me going as usual this morning. Now I need my cackleberry and toast...maybe more later if more pics come in. Y'all come, heah?
