Australian model Adut Akech reveals the heartwarming milestone she just achieved at 19

'I never in my wildest dreams thought I would get to this': Australian model Adut Akech, 19, achieves huge milestone... after Meghan Markle called her an 'inspiration'

She's currently one of the biggest names in the modelling world, that was recently named as a 'trailblazer' and 'inspiration' by Meghan Markle.

But when it comes to determining her success, Australian model Adut Akech has revealed her biggest achievement so far is a little closer to home.

Speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald on Sunday, the 19-year-old admitted with pride that she has just been able to buy her mother a house in Adelaide.

'When I came to Australia, I promised my mum that I would finish school, buy her a house and car and make something of myself,' explained South Sudan born Adut.

'I never in my wildest dreams thought I would get to this but at the age of 19 I have been able to do it... my career has allowed that to happen.'

Adut, who moved to Adelaide when she was seven as a refugee, praised her mother for raising her and her six siblings alone after their father died years ago.

The model, who now calls New York home, got her big break at 16.

Despite just three years passing since then, Adut has attended the Met Gala twice, become close friends with Naomi Campbell and fronted a Valentino campaign.

Last week, she was named by Meghan Markle as one of the 15 'trailblazing' women who is a 'force for change' in the issue of Vogue she guest-edited.

The Sudanese-Australian supermodel told The Daily Telegraph last week that the Duchess herself rang to discuss the inspiring magazine issue.

The 19-year-old revealed: 'Vogue told me they had a surprise for me and they would call in a couple of hours and when the phone rang it was her.'

The model says she was immensely flattered by the call, which she took in her kitchen, and during which the Royal called her 'an inspiration'.

'She said that I was an inspiration, I couldn't believe that she was calling me an inspiration,' she gushed.
